Ack, I have not posted recently I know, and it has been needling at me. I have been busy busy finalizing everything for Surtex which is May 17-19 (Booth 222!) Having wrapped things up at this point, (which is a great feeling by the way), I thought I would get you all up to date on what I've been doing POST Surtex. The following designs are not in my Surtex portfolio, and the crazy title says it all!!!! Enjoy! #abstract #mod #midcentry #patterns #design #textiledesign #fab
((((((SIGH)))))), I was on Pinterest yesterday browsing 1950s/60s furniture ((((((SIGH)))))). I really could do the majority of my house in furniture from that era. Some of it does get a little crazy, but boy are there just some gorgeous, clean lines! So, of course I had to look up the definition of "Mod", where did the term come from I wondered? I knew it was a general style of the 60s but needed to know more. Here are a few defintions I found: -An unconventionally modern
Slacking on the blog posts, yep that's me. And it has been bothering me for sure. Here is the deal, we live in Northern Virginia and have been getting slammed with winter weather. I am not only a freelance surface designer but a stay at home Mom to three amazing young kids. They just had their TENTH snow day yesterday. We have had ONE full week of school since before Christmas vacation. Needless to say, we have had a very inconsistent schedule and it obviously impacts my
Sometimes.....a very simple shape comes out on to my paper. From that simple, clean shape, multiple designs emerge and it is a beautiful evolution. The first shape you see below was something I did within a matter of seconds - a very raw sketch. It was a shape that I was going to use with additional elements in another design. On Monday, something made me try it.....I sat down to draw and out came shapes that were matching up together like a puzzle, but the shapes themselves had no similarities. I posted my first design earlier this week (which I have already sold by the way!), and am posting it again below along with two more that I did later in the week. So, you can see
More like outside of my comfort zone! I do lots and lots of florals, and I love doing them, they come very naturally. I enjoy working in a tossed/free flowing way. Sometimes you have to change it up a bit though, give yourself a bit of a challenge as an artist in order to grow. I have been looking at a lot of geometirc and abstract designs lately, and trend reports are teeming with them! I've been pinning my little heart out on Pinterest, here is my GEOMETRIC design board.
Just a tad drawn to this color right now, or shall we say a bit OBSESSED..... in the last month I have purchased a sweater, scarf and handbag in this color, and not really on purpose, I've just been to drawn to it (well and the fact that it is out all over the place in stores so obviously TRENDING!) I think CAYENNE.... A nice bold RED, but with a definite hint of orange...gorgeous, lively and spirited I think! This beautiful cherry tomato captures it perfectly. SIMPLE but ST
