Getting lost.....in Art Nouvea.
ART NOUVEA and WILLIAM MORRIS
Oh, I can get LOST looking at Art Nouvea wallpaper and fabric designs! Specifically William Morris designs. William Morris was a leading member of the Arts and Crafts Movement (1880-1910). He is most well known for his pattern designs, especially on fabrics and wallpapers. It absolutely amazes me that they were able to do what they did without computer technology. Below are some gorgeous examples of his work.
HOW DID HE DO THAT?
Now, take a good look at his designs......can you pick out the original drawing that he repeated? For example on the 3rd design above, the original drawing is repeated three times, it is just reflected to make up the pattern. Do you see it now? In the next image I have it humbered, the numbers represent the exact same leaf, again the drawing is just reflected! So cool. He did use other techniques when making his designs, but this type is so fascinating to me. I couldn't wait to try it!
MY MODERN TAKE ON ART NOUVEAU
I have a blast using the above technique. I never know what "unplanned" patterns are going to emerge once the repeat is made. It is the BEST kind of surprise. Below are some of my "Art Nouveau" designs with the first group of 4 pictures showing you my steps to making it happen!
Do you see the subtle vertical chevron in the blue design above? That pattern was actually made by the "berries" and I had NO idea that was going to happen, talk about an adrenaline rush when you see something like that! Addicting I tell you, addiciting. Below is one of my favorites that I have named "yellow bells". Thank you for checking in today, I hope you enjoyed it!
