So let's just kick this off with a funny story. My husband (active duty Marine) goes through life using the complete opposite side of the brain than his artsty fartsy wife! Which is great, love him for it! So we were talking one day about my designs and he says, "before I saw you drawing your designs I thought that every floral pattern on a pillow or a curtain were always things found in 'real life'.....I seriously would have loved to see the look on my face, it took me a moment to actually register what he had just said and then we both had a good laugh. And I do apologize if you thought the same thing, but no this is not the case ;)
Nope, this artist prefers NOT to do "real life", although I can and will if asked to of course! For example, I have done quite a few animal portraits which I have posted on my website, but they are not what I am drawn towards producing. Notice I do like to use a "pop art" style, just can't help myself!
WHERE I FIND INSPIRATION
I enjoy looking up "real life" photographs of things and then putting my own spin on it. Above is an example, these are all drawings from photographs of real flower buds. They're just all different flowers! I chose buds that I liked and put them all together in this design, changed the colors to my liking and look how fun and interesting it turned out!
CABLE KNIT - WHAT?
Can you spy the cable knit? Check out the funky "ball flower", the pattern inside is inspired by a cable knit sweater!
Now, there are lots of times where I sit down and just let it flow....the design above is one of those, just came right out my head and on to the paper! No inspiration needed and those designs turn out to be some of my favorites!
