So it neared 50 degrees today here in Northern, VA....been in the 30s for what seems like forever. We knew it was the perfect opportunity to get the kids.out.of.the house. We loaded up and went to Theodore Roosevelt Island which is on the Potomac River in Washington DC. It has perfect trails for a family of 5 with three kids under the age of 11. I thought to myself you know what, I'm going to look for patterns.....I had just been browsing microscopic patterns online yesterday and that kind of had me primed for the hike today I guess. Once I decided on this I was snapping pictures left and right. The kids got into it too, "Mom, take a picutre of this!" Below is a recording of what I saw on the walk, a bit of a picture overload! (there are a couple of pictures that aren't exactly "patterns", I just thought they were COOL, and one picture is from when we got home this afternoon!)
PART OF A BASE OF A FOUNTAIN
UP CLOSE OF A CHOPPED TREE TRUNK
MORE BARK....SO PRETTY!
ICE PATCHES ON THE POTOMAC RIVER
GORGEOUS VEINS OF A LEAF

MORE TREE BARK, AMAZING THE VARIATION RIGHT?
MUDDY FOOT PRINT.....JUST THINK ABOUT ALL OF THE PATTERNS ON THE BOTTOMS OF SHOES! WHO COMES UP WITH THOSE ANYWAY?

AND HOME MAKING SOUP, CUT INTO THIS GORGEOUS PURPLE CARROT AND HAD TO TAKE A PICTURE!
BEFORE THE SOUP....
When I got home I got to drawing, just for a bit, had to make soup! Below is a design I came up with and it is inspired by a picture from the hike! See the inspiration piicture below it.
WHILE THE SOUP WAS SIMMERING
Then I got to thinking, I wonder if I have any designs that actually resemble something that I saw on the hike today. So I started browsing and look what I came up with!
What a great inspirational day, a wonderful walk with the family, a pretty design because of that and then we had YUMMY, CREAMY CHICKEN VEGETABLE SOUP!
